IEP’s
Individualized education program (IEP)
(IDEA) Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, requires that an IEP be created by the the educational team for each child who qualifies for special education. The IEP must include a statement of present educational performance, instructional goals, educational services to be provided, and criteria and procedures for determining that the instructional objectives are being met.
Indivdualized family service plan (IFSP)
Similar to an IEP for older children this plan provides services for young children with disabilities (under three years of age) and their families; drawn up by professional and parents; Mandated by PL 99-457.

The IEP meeting
- Welcome and Introductions
- Sign “Participation Section”
- Reminder that all information in an IEP meeting is confidential
- Review the Purpose of the Meeting
- Review the assessments
- Determine eligibility
- Review student’s present levels
- Determine area of need
- Develop goals and benchmark
- Identify related services
- Summarize decision of the team
- Parent/legal guardian signs IEP
- Copy IEP for parent to take home that day
