As a parent, I do think that it is especially vital for a special education teachers to be organized especially at the start of the school. Being prepared will help maintain a more stucture and organized start.

Having never been in the teaching environment, I can only imagine how crazy the bus drop off zone may be. Being prepared sounds like the best way to reduce the stresses of the first day back. Even though it sounds like a lot of work, it is best to read all the IEP files and become familiar with each child. I don't think it has to skew your perception of the child before the first day. We can still work on entering with an open mind.

All of this is good readiness that any teacher should follow (minus the IEP part). There is nothing wrong with being prepared. I job shadowed at a special needs school and the drop off and pick up of the kids on buses ran so smoothly. It was amazing!

Working as an aide in special education, it would be very useful to have access to the children's IEP's. That way we would be informed and know how to better deal with a particular situation that might arise during the course of the day.

i i strongly beleive one should read the IEP's it would help you know what is expected and just give you background info in the child. be prepared and it allows you to catch up on the child's life!

it's true!! teachers have to be prepared from the beginning or before. these tips are good for teachers to follow. I'm pretty sure that if teachers prepare themselves they'll have a successful, fun classroom. and children will love their teachers.

I am also a strong believer of "Getting Ready", Thank you so much they are great tips and reminders for beginners teacher like me especially. I am voluntering in a school. In any field being prepared is so much helpful and makes our work easier and quicker , Working with children one needs to be more comfortable otherwise children get lost and confused. We get more and more better through practice, by being more organized and continued prepared the year flows smoothly. Again children are counting on us, they need extra encouragement and motivation which through guidance we can support their learning and teaching.

Being a teacher, it's very important to be prepared each and every day, especially around the time when school starts. I make sure I'm always prepared for what is to come and also prepare my mind for those children who really need that extra attention.
Great ideas though!
