Getting Ready
Many teachers will be getting ready for the new year. The most important thing is to get organized and plan out your first days. Here are a few things to keep in mind..

1. CALENDAR EVENTS: Be aware of school calendar, and all events and meetings the first month. Plan early for assessments and IEP’s
2. REVIEW IEP FILES: Some teachers feel by reading the IEP comments, it may give the them a negative view of the student not allowing for a fresh start. As the case carrier, you are responsible for all content and time lines within the IEP. It is important to review and follow all goals, service pages, and read notes pages.
3. BUS SCHEDULES: The first day of students arriving by bus can and is usually confusing. If at all possible, get your bus list together with students and bus numbers. Place cones to designate areas for busses. Parents feel they can pull up to any available curb and drop off their kids. This is hazardous and cause further delays. Also be prepared with phone numbers for the the district contact, bus company and parents.

Being a teacher, it’s very important to be prepared each and every day, especially around the time when school starts. I make sure I’m always prepared for what is to come and also prepare my mind for those children who really need that extra attention.
Great ideas though!

I am also a strong believer of “Getting Ready”, Thank you so much they are great tips and reminders for beginners teacher like me especially. I am voluntering in a school. In any field being prepared is so much helpful and makes our work easier and quicker , Working with children one needs to be more comfortable otherwise children get lost and confused. We get more and more better through practice, by being more organized and continued prepared the year flows smoothly. Again children are counting on us, they need extra encouragement and motivation which through guidance we can support their learning and teaching.

it’s true!! teachers have to be prepared from the beginning or before. these tips are good for teachers to follow. I’m pretty sure that if teachers prepare themselves they’ll have a successful, fun classroom. and children will love their teachers.

i i strongly beleive one should read the IEP’s it would help you know what is expected and just give you background info in the child. be prepared and it allows you to catch up on the child’s life!

Working as an aide in special education, it would be very useful to have access to the children’s IEP’s. That way we would be informed and know how to better deal with a particular situation that might arise during the course of the day.

All of this is good readiness that any teacher should follow (minus the IEP part). There is nothing wrong with being prepared. I job shadowed at a special needs school and the drop off and pick up of the kids on buses ran so smoothly. It was amazing!

Having never been in the teaching environment, I can only imagine how crazy the bus drop off zone may be. Being prepared sounds like the best way to reduce the stresses of the first day back. Even though it sounds like a lot of work, it is best to read all the IEP files and become familiar with each child. I don’t think it has to skew your perception of the child before the first day. We can still work on entering with an open mind.

As a parent, I do think that it is especially vital for a special education teachers to be organized especially at the start of the school. Being prepared will help maintain a more stucture and organized start.

I think that it’s so important for teachers to be ready and organized early, before the school year starts. Having a look into the child’s files before school starts can only benefit the teacher when the year begins.

i think the most important thing is to always be prepared and to never let your classroom have a dull moment or be unprepared.

I think it is great that you are preparing teachers on what they should expect the first day or week of school to be like and giving them tips that will be helpful to make the first day more successful.

I feel that it is very important to know the schoo’s schedule and also know your own schedule! It is important to not be stressed because that in turn may stress out the children.
