It is really good to learn about new fundings for special education. The need is so great but existing funds don't seem to fit those needs. Special ed has always been put in the "back burner" and it has not been a priority for politicians and other people in charge of making these decisions. Hopefully this stimulus money will help the special ed needs awareness grow and more fundings will be allocated to meet the needs of children with disabilities.

Because of all the cutbacks in education, the special education world seemed doomed to be hit the hardest. Thanks to this stimulus money the great need for educating special needs children will still continue.

Linda, I completely agree with you. There's too much money being wasted on things that are not worthwhile. I wish that those in office would see the need for funding in things that the children actually need...instead of stone signs on the freeway that read "Buena Park". It makes me feel sad to know that we care more about vanity than in children, our future.
That's just the way that I see it.

I think it is time we did something about special children. We spend more money in things that we don’t need instead of investing in our future children, since more and more are diagnose with a special need. People with special needs should obtain the right to have the supplies they need to be or become successful. Generation after generations, we can see more and more children are being born special and it’s time to do something about it. I hope that this money will not just pay for school furniture and supplies but also to buy special programs that will provide them to learn and succeed in life.

Based on this weeks news, we will see if any of the Stimulus money will help in the classrooms. I hear its not to be used for longterm planing or teachr retention (salaries). It will most likly be used as a short term investment for supplies, furniture, proffessional development, testing and software. Things that will be on the shelf or obsolete in a few years.
