I think you also need your imagination to help special education students in day care environment. Many of them like puppets, you could create stories, and they could create stories to help their imaginations. You could also use painting, hand painting could help their imaginations. And, also crayons and markers and a big paper, go outside with them ask them to look around and draw or color something. They also like art and crafts, those are their favorites. I think, that could give you a good help.

Wow, that was a lot of information. I am glad that The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is including Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have a co-worker who is going through a difficult time right now because her youngest son who is Autistic was told he had to go to another school by the district because his district could not give him the help he needs. She is on a waiting list at another school to see if he can attend that school. It is a lot of work and I think that schools should accommodate every disability.

This is responding to Laura’s question about credentials, you need to apply for a Child Development permit through the state. Go to Commission on Teacher Credentialing website, click on applications. Next click on Child Development permits and download and print the one you need. The site will tell you what classes you need and you also need a liveScan which is finger prints, local jails do liveScan. There is a processing fee which costs $55.00 dollars. This website also has what James is looking for.

Also Laura, Many schools offer a Special Education in Child Development permits or add on to a permit. You would need to speak withh someone who is in the Child development field at college or University.
