It is sad that children have to suffer in schools because of the government. Ashley you are so right. Special Education needs a lot more attention and they are not receiving it. It sad to see how children are failing and its not their fault.

I had read in my school textbook that the federal government barely supplies any money to special education. The money needs to come from local governments and contributions form generous people. I think this is wrong! Yes, general education is important and they need money too, but these special needs children need more attention and help with everything in the schools!

Based on this weeks news, we will see if any of the Stimulus money will help in the classrooms. I hear its not to be used for longterm planing or teachr retention (salaries). It will most likly be used as a short term investment for supplies, furniture, proffessional development, testing and software. Things that will be on the shelf or obsolete in a few years.

Although the budget cuts are detrimental in our children's learning, we need to look for other solutions to our minimal supplies. I found that asking students' parents for any donations was helpful and many parents have supplied what they could according to their financial situations. Also, writing letters to companies, restaurants, and other sponsors can help. They may not have to donate money, but they can donate material such as restaurant cups, napkins, and pens.

It is a sad situation where the eduction of "our" children is put on the back burner. California is at the bottom of the list in education across the 50 states and the United States as a whole is at the bottom. I have a $8 million dollar budget cut in my district this year and a $12 million cut next year. As a morning and after school child care teacher I have started to supply a lot of my own art work to class for the children. The situation is defiantly going to get worse before it gets any better.

We were told this year that special ed allowance given to us from district would have to be spent by the first of the year or we would loose it. Some of the teachers i work with mentioned that we may get a bailout from our state.
